Speculative Application

Send your application to HR@SecTepe.de
Apply NowOur application process
We deliberately keep the application process short, transparent and fair. From first contact to offer, it typically takes two to three weeks – no hidden steps, no assessment-centre overkill, no endless waiting times.
Submit your application
Send us your CV, cover letter and – if available – work samples or certificates. We do not need formatted portfolios, photos or information on religion or marital status. An email to HR@SecTepe.de is enough.
Initial conversation (45 min, remote)
We get to know each other, clarify expectations on both sides, introduce the company, the team and the role and talk about your technical focus areas. Where it makes sense, we already discuss concrete project examples.
Technical interview & trial work
Depending on the role, a technical interview with two senior colleagues follows (for pentest and SOC roles including a live exercise) or a half-day trial either on site or remote so that you can experience our way of working in a realistic setting.
Offer & onboarding
If it fits, you get a concrete offer within no more than five business days. Onboarding is structured: buddy programme, clear 30-60-90-day goals, access to our training platform and budget for external further education.
Our values
We do not believe in mission-statement posters on the canteen wall, but in three core attitudes that we test again and again in interviews, project decisions and feedback rounds. If you recognise yourself in them, we are probably an excellent match.
Honesty over optimism
Our clients expect clear statements from us about risks, effort and limits – even when those are uncomfortable. We expect the same internally: instead of flowery phrasing, a sober analysis and a clean recommendation.
Craft over hype
Cybersecurity is, to 80 %, clean craft: documented processes, consistent patch levels, reliable backups, rehearsed incident response. We look for people who appreciate craftsmanship and are willing to deliver it precisely and sustainably.
Learning as a permanent state
Attack methods change weekly. At SecTepe, continuous learning is not a bonus but a scheduled share of working time: conferences, certification paths (OSCP, CISSP, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, CISA), internal CTFs and red/blue-team exercises are part of the everyday work.
Career FAQ
The questions we hear most often in interviews – and the answers that would otherwise only come up in a first conversation.
- Can I submit a speculative application?
- Yes. If none of our open positions fits but you see your strengths in cybersecurity, privacy, IT operations or compliance, send us a speculative application at HR@SecTepe.de. We respond within ten business days – even if we do not have an immediate need.
- Do you work remotely, hybrid or on site?
- We work hybrid by default. Depending on the role, the sensible amount of on-site work (Wülfrath) ranges from none to two days per week. For client projects we align presence requirements with the client. Fully remote is possible for most roles.
- Which certifications do you support?
- We fund all certifications relevant to the role: OSCP, OSWP, CRTP, PNPT, CISSP, CISM, CISA, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor, BSI IT-Grundschutz Practitioner, Microsoft SC-/AZ-/MS- paths, AWS Security Specialty, Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer and many more. Exam fees, study time and preparation material are covered.
- How much experience do I need?
- That depends heavily on the role. For senior roles (e.g. Senior Penetration Tester, Senior Consultant) we typically expect five to eight years of relevant experience. For junior and mid-level roles, solid fundamentals, visible initiative (CTFs, open-source contributions, home labs) and the willingness to learn systematically matter more than pure years of experience.
- What does a typical day look like?
- The day starts with a short team stand-up (15 minutes) followed by project work. On Wednesdays we hold a technical knowledge share (45 minutes) on current threats, tools or client cases. On Fridays we reserve time slots for training, personal research and community contributions.
- Do you consider career changers?
- Yes – especially in awareness, compliance and consulting roles. People coming from adjacent fields (IT administration, software engineering, audit, data protection, risk management) often bring exactly the perspective cybersecurity is lacking. We offer a structured re-skilling path with a certification plan.
